A Word From Roger
"The
achievements of an organization are the results of the combined
effort of each individual."
This
quote is attributed to the legendary coach of the Green Bay Packers,
Vince Lombardi. With WHR's location in Southeastern WI, the
vast majority of our employees are spirited Green Bay Packer fans and
were ecstatic with their team's success in this year's Super
Bowl. However, growing up in Chicago as a Bears fan pitted me
against my own employees, and you can be assured there was plenty of
grandstanding and good natured ribbing involved during the post
season games.
In
reflecting on the nature of football or any sport, there is a direct
correlation to the services that WHR provides and what ball players
try to achieve in securing victories. I consistently stress to
our internal teams that success in this business is directly related
to the combined efforts of everyone involved. This not only
includes WHR employees but also involves the supplier partners,
individual transferees and the clients we are servicing. I've
been to so many relocation meetings where people try to put a
hierarchy around the importance of a particular function, but any one
function in the relocation supply chain can be detrimental to the
overall goals of a relocation program.
Football
games can be won or lost by the best quarterback throwing an
interception, a coach failing to call an appropriate time out, a
referee missing a call, or a punter fumbling a long snap. So
true in a relocation can service be lost because a relocation
counselor fails to process equity timely, a moving van doesn't show
up on time, an appraisal report is incorrect, or a gross up is not
applied accurately to an employee's wages. WHR's organization
must have individuals working in concert with all of the different
departments, including service providers and clients, to ensure every
relocation is successful.
To
this end WHR provides a metrics based approach to individual job
performance, but also ties this to the results of the company as a
whole. While it may be great to have a counselor that gets 100%
service satisfaction, if they do so by burdening other departments
than WHR as a team will not win. This philosophy and approach
to business is also summed up in another great quote from Vince
Lombardi:
"Individual
commitment to a group effort - that is what makes a team work, a
company work, a society work, a civilization work."
Embracing
these concepts into WHR's business model and looking at our employees
as a team is what makes WHR work.
To
my Wisconsin based employees and die hard Packer fans across the US,
Congratulations on a well earned victory.
There
is also a very famous Chicago quote, "Wait till next year".
